Where to Take Your Boat in British Columbia and Alberta

Nov. 13 2020 Travel Guide By Seca Surf + Marine

It’s never too late to enjoy some time out on the water, and there will certainly be plenty of spots you can visit while it’s still warm enough to boat, and maybe even come back to for some ice fishing. The trouble around these parts is figuring out where to start! That’s why Seca Surf & Marine has provided some of the top lakes, rivers, and other boating areas near Kelowna, British Columbia, near Lake Country, and Calgary, Alberta, to give you a head start. Check them out for yourself and let us know what you think, or let us know which ones we missed!

Okanagan Lake, Near Kelowna

Just a short jog from our service centre in Kelowna, you’ll run into Okanagan Lake. As one of the largest lakes in the province, you can enjoy all sorts of great on-water activities, like watersports, fishing, scuba diving, and even explore the paddle trail. You can also head to some of the nearby metropolitan areas to enjoy time on land. This can include wine tours, BBQ boats, golfing, and other great activities. You’ll find something for everyone in your family to enjoy, or hit the water for a little time alone to enjoy some peace and quiet on a stunning lake.

Mabel Lake, East of Salmon Arm

Just north of Okanagan, you can visit the pristine Mabel Lake, a wonderful getaway for everyone who needs some time away from the hustle and bustle without spending a day to get there. It’s a haven for fishing enthusiasts and there’s even a luxury resort on the western shores of the lake. Look into resort lodging or bring your RV along for a weekend getaway among people who are passionate about the same things you are. It’s even near an airpark so you can put those piloting skills to the test and soar over the sprawling landscape around the lake.

It’s also surrounded by Mabel Lake Provincial Park and Skookumchuck Rapids Provincial Park, which offer many hiking trails and other nature activities for the true outdoor adventurer.

Chestermere Lake, East of Calgary

Jumping over to our boaters in southern Alberta, Chestermere Lake, which sits just easy of our Calgary location, is a favorite among locals and travelers from around the province. Make your way to this quiet community where you can enjoy an endless supply of activities. Even in the winter, if the lake isn’t frozen, you can take your boat out for some fun on the water. You can also check out some of their winter activities in the coming months, including skating (when it’s safe to do so) and snowmobiling. Visit all year long for a different experience every time.

Ghost Lake, West of Cochrane

A short drive outside of Calgary, past Cochrane, you’ll find Ghost Lake. Don’t worry, there are no ghouls that’ll curse your boat here, but you will be situated right at the base of the Rockies. Of all the great views on our list, it’s hard to beat what you’ll see here at these foothills. You can bring your camping gear and prepare for an entire vacation of quiet fishing, looking for a number of trout species, including bull and rainbow. Being at the base of the range, this area often experiences high winds, making it the perfect spot for sailing. There are even boat rentals available if you don’t have a vessel of your own.

Or you could check out our inventory of boats for sale here at Seca Surf & Marine. We’ll help you find the perfect craft for you and your family just in time to see the leaves turn and catch the crisp fall breeze.
